The Legacy Compass

From The FIGHT

The Legacy
Compass

Everything that came down your family line arrives at you. This is where you find out what crosses over.

The Legacy Compass is a short, guided look at your family line in three points: the road you came down, the ground your presence is building on right now, and the future you actually want your family walking toward. A few honest questions, one thing to write — about twelve minutes.

At the end you'll hold your Compass: a picture of what your line handed you, what's crossing over through you today, and a North Star — written in your own words — pointing at the family you intend to build. Bring your real answers; no one grades them.

Point One

The Road Behind You

Before a compass can point anywhere, it has to know where you're standing — and no one stands nowhere. You came down a road. Tell four short pieces of it. Memories, not analysis. Write plainly.

Point Two

The Ground You Stand On

Legacy is not what you leave when you're gone. It's what your presence is building while you're here. These twelve statements measure presence — nothing else. Score yourself honestly; the mirror only works if you look straight into it.

1 = rarely true  ·  5 = consistently true

Point Three

Your North Star

Now lift your eyes.

It is many years from now. Your family is gathered around a table. Look around the room. What do you see? What is the atmosphere? How do your children describe you to their children?

We've started it for you below, built from what you've already said. Now make it yours. If it reads true, take it as it stands and set the needle. If you see more — names, sounds, the look on a face, the thing someone says at the table — write it in. The more specific you are, the more this Compass can hand back to you. And if typing is slow, use the microphone on your keyboard and talk it out.

Here Is Where
You Stand

The Road

The Ground

Your North Star

You didn't write a wish. You set a heading. Read it slowly — this is your own voice, describing a table that doesn't exist yet:

Everything that came down your family line arrives at you — and you decide what crosses over. The line doesn't turn someday. It turns in a house, at a table, this week. The needle is pointing at that table.

The Prayer

The Road, the Ground, and your North Star are good to hold and good to return to. But none of them is what you pray. This is — all three, gathered into one prayer that calls the future into today:

And here is the work — the same for everyone who holds this Compass: show up to this prayer every morning. Out loud, before the day starts asking things of you. A prayer prayed once is a moment. A prayer returned to every morning is a road. Pray the future into today until you are standing in it.

Copy your Prayer — and your whole Compass: the Road, the Ground, your North Star — into your FIGHT Journal, dated. It's where this work lives, and where you'll return to it every morning. Don't have one yet? Get the FIGHT Journal here.

The Road Ahead

Three Doors

The Compass points. It doesn't carry you. If what you found here is asking for more, these are the rooms where the work continues. No pressure — just direction.

The Tool

The Family Atlas

The Compass you just set alone, your whole family builds together — in one guided gathering where everyone slows down, tells the truth, and it gets written where everyone can see it. What the Compass points to, the Atlas maps.
